How can I tell if my property is suitable for cavity wall insulation?

(i) If your property was built between 1932 and 1982 then you are likely to have cavity walls.

(ii) If the thickness of your wall is greater than 11 inches then the likelihood of the property having a cavity wall is high.

(iii) If the configuration of the bricks in your house looks like the "typical cavity wall" diagram, then your house is more than likely to have cavity walls.

How will I know if I can have loft insulation installed?

If you live in a house or a flat which has loft space then you should be able to install loft insulation.

How can I book an appointment for a free survey of my home?

You can book an appointment for a free survey of your home by calling 0844 736 2440^ or by completing the form on the registration page of this website.

What will happen during the survey appointment?

A British Gas approved Energy Expert will visit your home and assess what type of insulation you need. If you decide to have your home insulated, we will then arrange a convenient time for the installer to carry out the work.

How long will the survey take?

The survey will normally take between 1-2 hours to complete.

Will I need to be at home while the survey is carried out?

Yes. Someone will need to be in the property at the time of the survey.

If I don't own my home, will I still be able to have home insulation installed?

If you live in a rented property, you will need to obtain your landlords permission in writing to confirm that they are happy for your home to be insulated.
